The Clippers finished their NBA preseason schedule 6/2, their best mark since the franchise left Buffalo in 1977-78 NBA season. They will open the regular NBA season next week on the road against the Sonics, Rashard Lewis scored 18 of his 25 pts in the 2nd half & Ray Allen finished with 19 to lead the Seattle squad. The Clippers scored the last 7 pts of the 1rst half to open up a 46-33 lead, their biggest of the game. The Sonics closed the margin to 54-51 with a 9/0 run capped by a Lewis dunk with 5:15 left in the 3rd quarter, but that was as close as the Sonics got until the final minute as the Clippers maintained the lead the rest of the way. The Sonics responded with 7 straight pts, including an Allen, 3 pointer & rookie center Johan Petro's layup narrowed the gap to 89-86 with 1:23 to go.

Quinton Ross helped Seattle's comeback attempt by hitting a 21/footer with 47 sec. left, & the Clippers clinched the game it at the foul line. Yuta Tabuse, the 5’9” guard from Japan who signed with the Clippers as a free agent on Sept. 15th, scored all 8 of his pts during the 4th quarter to give them a 78-70 lead. The Clippers' leading scorer Corey Maggette, last NBA season, sat out again with a strained left hamstring that may keep him out of the NBA season opener. Backup point guard Shaun Livingston's back injury will keep him sidelined for the next 6 weeks. The SuperSonics also played without former Clippers guard Rick Brunson, who has inflammation in his left heel. Mikki Moore, another ex-Clipper who signed this NBA season as a free agent, played 8 scoreless minutes with a sore left knee that had kept him out of all but one other exhibition game. Seattle center Vitaly Potapenko has missed the entire preseason with strained left hamstring & is questionable for opening night.
